About the Office and Who We Audit

The C&AG’s mission is to provide independent assurance that public funds and resources are used in accordance with the law.

We work in accordance with our statutory remit to improve the use of public money and resources, and strengthen public accountability.

The quality of our work is based on two key principles: embedding quality and monitoring quality.

The C&AG is responsible for the audit of Central Government, funds administered by Government departments, State revenue collection and non-commercial state sponsored bodies.

The Office is a central government office established to assist the C&AG in carrying out his statutory functions and is staffed by civil servants. The majority of the staff are either qualified accountants or accountants in training.

The Office cooperates with audit institutions of other countries both in Europe and around the world.
