Responsibility for management of the different stages in the fine process is spread across a number of agencies, but falls primarily on the Garda Síochána (Police) and on the Courts Service. The report presents the findings of an examination that looked at how well the fine system operates in relation to cases within the jurisdiction of the District Court. In particular, it looked at how successful the fines system is in ensuring that financial penalties are imposed and collected and how well the various processes in the system are managed by the Garda Síochána and by the Court Service.
